Esquires: Why Can’t I Stop? (Bunky, 1968, 7″)
Soul single out of Chicago.
I have a bunch of singles by the Esquires, all of them solid. Originally from Milwaukee, they apparently tried to sign to Curtom but Mayfield wasn’t interested (maybe because the Esquires were too close in style to the Impressions?) and they signed to Bunky instead. This came out of their early crop of Bunky releases (most of which ended up on their debut LP). A very classic Chicago soul sound that I never get tired of.
