The Mandells: There Will Be Tears, Part 1 (Trans World, 196?, 7″)
I like this one enough to put it on Let It Whirl. It’s like the platonic ideal of a Northern soul “cooker,” especially that ace baseline powering it. Compared to yesterday’s Mandells single, this one was more “in-house.” The producers on here (Smith and Johnson) also worked on “Now I Know,” plus songwriter Claude Johnson Jr. also worked on my absolute favorite Mandells track (coming up tomorrow!)
