The Mandells: Think Back (Trans World, 196?, 7″)
Soul single out of Chicago.
It’s all about this. This song is like an encapsulation of my favorite everythings about soul. If you don’t find yourself gripping your fists, closing your eyes and belting out the chorus every time it swings around, there’s no hope for you.
All praise due Ruben Molina of the Southern Soul Spinners who was the first person to play this for me during the show we did together on The Melting Pot. Been fiending for it since. Only took 1.5 years!

Oliver,
I have to completely agree, but in a divergent way: I think The Attractions version (https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=111&v=tNq5ax5F-L0) puts this one to rest. The sound quality of my copy is better than the persons in that vid, although the production of the record still sounds like something Numero dug up. I wonder which one came first?
As a side note, I found this record in a box full of sleeved promo stuff I bought from a thrift store, and it was completely mint. The label art, in particular, tipped me that it might be something awesome, but I didn’t realize how rare it was until a year or two later. One of those records you’re almost afraid to play!
